Commonwealth of Virginia’s Most Beautiful Golf Course

Set in the rolling hills of Virginia’s Piedmont region, Boonsboro is home to one of the Commonwealth’s “classic” golf courses. Its rich tradition dates back to its 1923 inception, when the renowned Willie Park Jr. gave his enthusiastic approval for the tract of land and selected the routing of the golf course which was later designed by Fred Findlay. Construction was completed and the course opened for play on July 1, 1929. It possesses characteristics that give it historic context and classify it with its contemporaries.

“The history and the classic design character of your course are its identity. It flows naturally across the land. It was designed and constructed in an era during which significant changes to the landform were almost unheard of. Shapes, forms, and movement are natural to the site; they fit the place. The design is an exercise in subtlety rather than a statement of golf course architecture dominance. The maturity of the landscape and the uncluttered edges of your golf course are an invaluable asset and are rarely found in modern day golf courses. For these reasons, the golf course holds a place in history. It has legitimacy. It is most identifiable because of its past and the era in which it was created."

This classic course has truly withstood the test of time. Consistently rated as one of the top courses in Virginia and considered a genuine must play.  Boonsboro has proudly hosted one of the great men’s amateur events in the state, The Fox Puss Invitational, since 1971.  Also, beginning in 2019, the club is honored to host The Donna Andrews Invitational.  While the event may just be getting started, it is already rated as one of the finest women’s amateur events in the country.  The Club has a proud history of hosting many of Virginia’s most storied golf events.  Including, but not limited to, multiple men’s and ladies Virginia State Amateur, Senior Amateur and Open Championships.  In fact, the club has just finalized a deal to once again host Virginia’s the 2023 Men’s Virginia State Amateur.

With amazing scenery, hole shaping and playability, Boonsboro is one of the rare courses you can play every day and always enjoy. Every hole is truly unique and no matter what set of tees you play from; you will end up hitting every club in the bag.  This, along with the friendly staff make it a must play in central Virginia.
